| A Trip to Market
It’s just after 3.30 in the morning and Lindsay is on her way to New Covent Garden flower market. Traders have been there earlier, but all of them know that it is buyers like Lindsay who really bring the market alive.
Despite the early rise she’s already excited. “You can get so many great ideas here. New colours, shapes, new flowers and subtle trends.”
She is constantly looking to make the connection between the flowers at the market, her design ideas and the events and occasions so important to her customers.
“Look!” she says grabbing my arm and pointing at a shock of vibrant pink. That is just amazing. I’ve wanted something like this for ages, but I have never seen it so stunning.” As she darts off to another supplier it’s clear this is more than a pre-dawn task. Flowers really are her passion.
As Dennis, who’s been selling at the market all his life says “You know with Lindsay she’ll only take the best, so I won’t even think of suggesting anything that’s less than excellent condition.”
By 9.30am she’s back at LK Lily with the new stock – and a new burst of energy as the rest of the team arrives to assemble the unique designs she’ll be creating for today’s customers.
